ఉత్తరమీమాంసా శాస్త్రానికి వేదాంతశాస్త్రం అని పేరు. వేదాంతశాస్త్రంలో ప్రధానంగా అద్వైతం, విశిష్టాద్వైతం, ద్వైతం అను మూడు సంప్రదాయాలు ఉన్నాయి.
ఒక్కొక్క సంప్రదాయానికి సంబంధించి అతివిస్తృత మైన వాఙ్మయం ఉంది.
ఈ శాస్త్రాలలో అనాయాసంగా ప్రవేశం కల్పించడానికై ఎందరో మహాపండితులు ఆ యా కాలాలలో సిద్ధాంతమాత్ర ప్రతిపాదనపరా లైన అనేక లఘు గ్రంథాలు, ప్రకరణగ్రంథాలు రచించారు.
