About the Book :

The book addresses a much- needed but often taking for granted topic within the Hindu tradition- namely the timeless salience of universal values and attitudes for righteous living. It is a compendium of what constitutes universal values carefully culled from primary and secondary sources.

The book bridges the past and present by reinforcing the relevance of samanya dharma in contemporary times.

Gem of a book – buy it, read it! Also a good gift item. A very solid and insightful book about Samanya dharma. Author has scanned dozens of major Hindu texts to find the Samanya dharma advocated by various dharmasastras, smrithis, artha sastra, mahabharata, several puranas in small 90 pages book.

In our company, we give this book to every new recruit. Morals are an alien structure, dharma is native to India and helps employees to connect better with the Indian environment.

Samanya Dharma by Nithin Sridhar is an essential read for all who’d like to learn and assimilate the common ethics and rules prescribed to all by Hindu scriptures.
In the first chapter, Nithin begins with defining ‘dharma’ at 4 levels individual level, society level, global level and at cosmic level. In the subsequent chapters, he quotes copiously from our various Shastras and Itihaasa Puranas on Samanya Dharma. Since verses on this topic are scattered across the texts, it is a commendable job to consolidate and present it for a reader.
The closing chapters of the book deal with how Samanya Dharma is relevant for all types of seekers – Bhakti, Vedanta and spirituality.
All in all, a great book that can readers of all ages will find useful.
