Most Indians are unaware that the territory depicted on maps of Bharat are not entirely under Bharat’s control. This book attempts to throw light about Bharat’s territory under foreign control. It specifically focuses on areas of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir that are under the illegal occupation of Pakistan and China. The analyses the circumstances under which these territories came under adverse possession of China and Pakistan.

The book looks at these regions historically and tries to put some light on their historical evolution,geography and where applicable their population primarily with an intention to enlighten citizens of Bharat about these forgotten regions. By occupation of these regions by foreign powers, Bharat’s access to Afghanistan, central Asia and through them to the Eurasian heartland has been cut off. It is the need of the moment to make occupation of territories of Bharat a national issue. The public has to understand how Bharat was powerful and prosperous with the access to these areas. The narrative of status quo regarding these areas as a lost cause needs to be changed.

About the Author : 

Alok Bansal is Director India Foundation. He is also an Adjunct Professor at New Delhi Institute of Management (NDIM) and Secretary general of Asian Eurasian Human Rights Forum (AEHRF). A former naval officer, he served in Indian Navy for almost 32 years, where he commanded two warships and participated in Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka. He was also the founder Executive Director of South Asian Institute for Strategic Affairs (SAISA) and a Visiting Professor at the Pakistan Studies Programme of Maulana Mohammed Ali Jauhar Academy of International Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia.

He has been the Executive Director of the National Maritime Foundation (NMF) and has worked with the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), and Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS). He has authored three books titled Balochistan in Turmoil: Pakistan at Cross Roads and Gilgit-Baltistan and its Unending Saga of Human Rights Violations & Geopolitics of Himalayan region.
