Bharat’s Military Conquests in Foreign Lands

There is so little research on the overseas military operations undertaken by Indian rulers and the motivations for the same. It is here that this book by Mr Venkatesh Rangan fills a much needed gap in our understanding of our past. It is a unique work and the first of its kind.

Description

About the Book:

Between 900 BCE and 1680 CE, at least 21 military expeditions were launched by Indian rulers across raging seas and beyond the most formidable mountains to far-off foreign lands. There, Indian fleets and armies clashed with some of the mightiest military powers of human history. This myth-busting book provides a thrilling yet true account of these expeditions and explores what they tell us about the “Indic strategic mindset” from a historical perspective.

    :

The book is an eye opener. It explores the exploits of Indian rulers in foreign shores, a subject hitherto ignored by historians. From ancient times, whether it was the Cholas, Chalukyas, Pratiharas or Marathas, the Chakravartis of these dynasties invaded foreign lands to curtail the nefarious activities of the enemies or help the local government in establishing order or enrich the culture of these faraway lands. Through their exploits in foreign lands, they left their imprint on arts, architecture, sanskritization and governance of the province.
Venkatesh Rangan has narrated these exploits interestingly for readers to understand the glory of India and its rulers. A must read for history enthusiasts to learn about their glorious ancient legacy.

Venkatesh Rangan’s book, ‘Bharat’s Military Conquests in Foreign lands,’ is a well researched work of history. It touches on topics hitherto unwritten and ignored. From ancient times, Bharat has been the land of chivalrous rulers who conquered territories to establish peace, order and improve relations to benefit trade.
Venkatesh, in his flowing narrative style narrates about the valour and exploits of our ancient rulers who brought glory to India.Their land and naval expeditions were daring and evoked admiration within and outside India. Venkatesh succeeds in bringing alive these conquests through his detailed accounts of the encounters.
