Description
These essays on the life and times of Bankim Chandra Chatterji, the great Bengali prose writer, were first published serially in 1894 in Indu Prakash, a Bombay newspaper. They were written by Sri Aurobindo shortly after his arrival in India from England.
In them he describes the society which formed Bankim, a society of great intellectual awakening and cultural achievement. He also admires Bankim’s versatility and his literary work, which gained him an unparalleled place in Bengali literature.
