Description
Kashmir occupies an important place in India’s civilizational history. It derives its name from Kashyapa Rishi, one of the Saptrishis mentioned in the Rig Veda, who is considered to be the Prajapati, or progenitor of mankind.
The peaceful surroundings gave rise to a multitude of sages and rishis in the region like Bharat Muni, Utpaladeva, Panini, making Kashmir a veritable storehouse of ancient Vedic knowledge and a center of learning attracting students from far and wide. Construction of beautiful temples dedicated to different deities was carried out during the reign of many Hindu Kings until the 13th century CE
